The Benefits of Working in Rural and Remote Healthcare

At Curis Recruitment we work with many Nurses and Midwives who love working in rural and remote locations. For some this is their chosen area, and they say that they would never return to city life again! For others it is not for them. It is certainly a part of Nursing where you can learn loads, meet some amazing communities and where you can really immerse yourself into the position you are in making it your own.

As a Nurse or Midwife working in a rural and remote area there are many rewards and benefits including.

  1. The chance to get more hands-on experience than you would in a larger area. With less people in a clinic etc there is often more experience for you to learn more than if you were a part of a bigger team
  2. There is often the chance to step up into a higher-level position and get some management experience for example
  3. Amazing opportunities to be involved in some fantastic communities and really become a part of who they are
  4. Experience with other cultures and backgrounds, often giving you an insight into Aboriginal cultures etc for example that you may not be exposed to in a city hospital
  5. You get to see firsthand how your work impacts the community you are working in
  6. In most rural and remote areas, you are paid more so there is an excellent opportunity for you to save money and earn extra cash
  7. In a lot of the rural and remote areas the health service will often provide you with accommodation so that also means no rent or mortgage costs!
  8. Being in a rural or remote area there is often not as much to do so you do end up saving quite a bit of money!
  9. If doing a contract there is the fantastic opportunity to move around and explore different parts of the country on your time off

In short rural and remote nursing offers many amazing benefits and opportunities. Many Nurses and Midwives find it very rewarding seeing the role that they play in a community in need.
